Indefinite Articles and Lyric Hammersmith presents

The Magic Lamp

Directed by Arlette Kim George
Devised and performed by Sally Brown & Steve Tiplady
Music by Cliff Stapleton

The Magic Lamp takes a traditional Iraqi variant on the Aladdin fairytale and with a set filled with billowing muslin drapes and haunting Arabic tunes, presents the seemingly impossible: a shadow puppet show in the round.
It is the story of a blessed and beautiful boy who, through serendipity alone, ends up with a lamp-dwelling genie at his disposal. This bewitching shadow play - for four years and above - is told using light, paper and oil. From these simplest of ingredients, Indefinite Articles conjures up fantastical characters, shimmering transformations, souks, caves, palaces and deserts, choreographed to haunting original music. Gorgeous silhouette cut-outs and oil projections help to make this show a truly magical piece of performance art that is a real treat for both young and adult eyes.
This show has played Christmas seasons at the Junction Cambridge, Manchester’s Royal Exchange and the Lyric Hammersmith

Suitable for everyone aged 4+
